5 years of Leadership 555 Uganda (L555), 2012-2017

Background Leadership 555 Uganda has been operational in the country since 2012 though it was formally registered this year (2017) as a Company Limited by Guarantee. For an organization that largely thrives on local resources, we have had a relatively low turnover where majority of the staff have been retained up to date. Even when most of them are either undergraduates or graduates, they have chosen to serve as volunteers or part-time staff for this worthwhile undertaking. It is developing to create a radical awareness of the global need for authentic leaderships in all social spheres. We live in a world where social problems have gradually become complex where most of the well-intended interventions have unfortunately worsened the situation. Our country needs leaders and leaderships that are uniquely qualified to administrate systemic initiatives with potential to fundamentally transform this land. We call them catalytic leaders. Ekiwumulo Men’s Meeting  on 3-Jun-2007, 9am – 3pm at Namirembe Guest House, Kampala  in collaboration with Leadership 555, Spirit FM. Attendance: 80 people: 70 men, 10 women | 20 new people. Preamble. Objective: to develop a  lexicon  for men on good theology. Presentations were done by: The Youth Dividend , William Mukisa (Leadership 555 Uganda). Extra Ordinary General Meeting (EOGM), May 22 2017, Stephen Iga

Following our registration was an opportunity to ‘clean the house’ given the fact that we has been at work for the last five years. With the aid of an experienced advocate of the High Court that was eventually brought on board as the Company Secretary, we learnt that several anomalies were done in the registration process and henceforth an EOGM was held on May 22nd 2017 to review the Company’s Business after Incorporation. Seven (6 present in person, 1 by proxy) of the nine members of the Company attended the meeting that successfully dealt with the matters at hand.

Incubator Launch, May 2017

The incubation process (leadership development) was launched on 13 th  May 2017 with 7 incubatees and 17 potential support members and observers. There were four facilitators and the engagement was active and involving. The topics taught were: 1.       The overview of incubation process which included L555 expectation from the candidates, the topics, assignments, payments and importance of teams. 2.       The introduction to manifesto writing, includes the outlay, expectations, exercises and assignments definition. 3.       Johari window.

Incubator Interviews, Apr 2017.

There were at least fifteen incubator candidates who were schedule for interviews from 20 th  to 25 th  April which were held successfully and ten candidates qualified for the incubation process. The interview was to check on the following: 1.       The idea and its systemic nature 2.       L555 values and leaders’ personal values. 3.       What the leader has been doing relating to the idea. 4.       The ability of the candidates to pay for phase one of incubation process. 5.       The passion and commitment to see the idea through the incubation process. 6.       Their willingness to collaborate and work in a team. 7.       Their understanding of the root cause of the problem and what others are doing about it (the problem statements). USAID Uganda Mission. Mar 2017.

Following a number of good discussions on  a systemic approach to social transformation  with Mr Joseph Mwangi of USAID in January and February, Leadership555 proceeded to have a sit down with top officials, including the Mission Director, at USAID offices on 1 st  March, 2017. We presented our model,  a solution to the problem of breakthrough , which highlighted the role of catalytic leaders, collaboration fuelled by a value-based community, radical innovation and the mobilisation of resources. The USAID team was keen to hear more about ongoing programs at a later date. Correspondence has been exchanged since, particularly in the area of USAID’s education initiatives in the country. Education Co-creation Lab, Feb. 2017. Aaron Kirunda

The vision of the Education C-Lab is to  catalyse  a  process  of  thoughtful collaboration  with  multi-disciplinary stakeholders  in order to  synthesize  Uganda’s resources towards  innovative and systemic impact  in education. This process is being led by Aaron Kirunda of Uganda Spelling Bee. Preliminary research led to the co-creation of a foundational strategy. Presently, the process is briefly paused while a significant funding opportunity to support some of the pioneering team is being pursued. Education Catalyst Engagements On 25 th  February 2017, Leadership555 hosted an education specific catalyst engagement. There were six participants present including a head of school, a pastor and an educator leading a radical literacy project in Uganda.
